New and Improved!

It is hard to believe that it has been 3 years this month that I took the first steps in owning my own photography business.  So many things have changed while countless others have stayed exactly the same.  My skills as a photographer drastically improved.  My mom has a picture hanging in her house from the first session I ever shot of my kids.  I cringe when I walk by.  It isn’t even remotely good, yet she displays it with pride.  Aren’t moms the best?

When I started out I had two very small children and my main purpose for learning to take better pictures was to document them as they grew.  They are now 5 1/2 and almost 4, and we have added one more little human to the mix.  My lazy cartoon-filled days are now interrupted by carpools, dance class, and the sport of the season (which happens to be basketball right now.)  I only have one kid in diapers now, and that, my friends, is a very welcome difference!

Three years ago I watched my husband go to work and school simultaneously.  I supported in the best way I knew how while he stayed up late nights to study after the littles were in bed.  Now I watch him go to work every day at a job that I could never do.  I listen to him tell me of his patients’ successes and struggles, and some really funny goings on in the care and rehabilitation center where he works.

Photography has enriched my life in ways I didn’t anticipate at all.  I have met so many new people.  Dear friends who started out as clients but quickly claimed a spot in my heart.  Fellow photographers who I have met and helped me to learn and grow in my profession, some of them have wedged themselves firmly into my life and it is my plan to keep there there forever.

The last three years have been a wonderful journey, and I haven’t done a good job of blogging about it at all.  But, the good thing about a birthday or anniversary is it gives us a chance to reflect on the past, learn from it, and move forward.  So since this is the birth month of my business I am doing just that.  I will be better about blogging my sessions, and not just posting them on Facebook.  And if I don’t have a session to blog about you may just get to know a little more about me and the things I love.  So please come back, and come back often.
